I have recently heard this story about Furman University of Christian Knights, that goes something like this, the story is about the mascot, they are the Furman University Champions, however it has been told that before Furman recognized as University, Furman was known as College Christian Knights, but it is believed and somewhat of an embarrassment when this college has been recognized as University as Furman University Christian Knights “F.U.C.K” , and it was then that the mascot has been changed to avoid the word form, well this is what I have heard at first but then I got the chance to read the whole story.
Before 1960’s Furman University baseball team was known as “Hornets” whereas the basketball team is known by the nickname “Paladins” and the football team as “Hurricane”, but now the Universities official mascot is a knight on a horse and all the athletic teams of the university are known by the nickname of “Paladins”.
History shows that knights and Paladins were not always horsemen soldiers, but according to the modern imagery of the Knight helped the University to develop a mascot as a knight on a horse, the Knights horse owned by Dave Hanson from Atlanta, GA, is a Fury.
