Christina Watson a 26-year-old woman was on her honeymoon with her husband Gabe Watson when she drowned while scuba diving just 11 days after her wedding in 2003. Gabe Watson remarried with a fellow American “Kim Lewis” in Alabama just 5 years after his first wife’s death on 15th August, 2008, while the case was still in court.
According to Gabe Watson, Christina started having problem with her scuba diving equipment after few minutes into their dive, and instead of helping her he decided to go for help. One of the dive instructors pulled Christina to the surface, but struggles to revive her failed.
But a fellow diver told investigators last year that he saw Watson “bear hugging” his petite wife, while they were underwater, soon after he surfed whereas his wife sank to the ocean floor.
Let me tell you clearly at this point that Gabe Watson is an experienced diver. Watson told police that Christina knocked his scuba diving mask off and then sank too quickly for him to rescue her. But prosecutor rejected Watson’s explanation by saying that it is not possible for anyone to sink so quickly.
Gabe Watson remarried on the 15th August, 2008 with “Kim Lewis” in his home state of Alabama. Christina’s parents were shocked at the news but did not comment on Gabe Watson’s remarriage.
Gabe Watson was pleaded guilty and was sentenced yesterday on Friday 5th June, 2009. He will only serve one year out of his original 4 ½ years sentence. The decision has caused resentment all over the U.S. and Australia, particularly with the family of Christina Watson, Gabe’s first wife. Christina from Birmingham, Alabama died while on her honeymoon with her husband in 2003 when couple dove off to the tropical coast of Queensland, Australia for scuba-diving. A dive instructor found novice scuba divers body on the ocean floor after her husband Gabe Watson had surfaced.
