Short dresses and mini- skirts are thought to be the symbol of fashion and modernity but educational institutes have their own traditions and attitude and within educational institutes these dresses are thought to be the symbol of vulgarity. A twenty years old Brazilian tourism student Geisy Arruda has been expelled from University after aggressive objections by students annoyed at the short dress she wore on campus.
Almost seven hundred students involved in the incident occurred on October 22, in which students resisted or protested against Geisy Arruda for her inappropriate dress, in a renowned university Uniban (Universidade Bandeirantes – Bandeirantes University) in one of the most affluent urban area in the state.
Some of the male students were already waiting intolerantly and annoyingly to criticize Geisy Arruda for her outfit. As she walked up the staircase around the atrium of the University, Some of these boys instantly rushed out to the classrooms calling out other class fellows. Shortly, at least 200 students, males and females, gathered outside to have a glance at Geisy.
All the students heckled and called abuse at her and called her ugly names. Afterward some of the boys attacked the young lady for they argued that the matter is not about her dresses but the way she acts to capture the attention of male students are very regrettable. Local 911 called to stable the situation and to calm down the students at campus.
This Sunday, November 8, University decided to expel the Geisy Arruda from the University. According to University officials, she was responsible for all that happened on the campus.
Brazil’s federal government now has involved in the case. Minister Freire condemned the University for expelling the young student and stated that this action shows “downright prejudice and unfairness towards female students. The Ministry of Education has also declared that university decision is not reasonable and university has to face a legal process for that.
