Gilgo State Park (State park in Gilgo Beach, New York) is located on the southern part of Long Island in Suffolk County. The ocean front beach is the most outstanding characteristic of Gilgo State Park. There is Great South Bay on the north side of Gilgo State Park and Atlantic Ocean on the South side of the barrier island. No services are yet provided at Gilgo State Park because it is underdeveloped. Only 4 wheel vehicle is permitted to access at the park. Fishing, Shore Scenery and Tranquility are the other features of Gilgo State Park. No pets are permitted on the park. The latest news about this park is that a big basking shark washed up on Gilgo Beach in Babylon on 14th of July, 2009. Researchers sliced up the corpse of a huge basking shark with plans on Tuesday to send samples of the creature all around the globe. The hardly living 26-foot shark troubled beachgoers when the Shark appeared at shore on Tuesday.
It is indistinct that why the huge shark died but researchers consider, it was injured or had been ill. According to the State Parks spokesman “George Gorman”, “The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation” will find out the reason of death.
The huge dead shark weighed about a ton as prescribed by “Tracy Marcus from Cornell Cooperative Extension to The Associated Press”. According to her it is strange for ill basking sharks to come on shore.
