With the arrival of December, a number of American states are experiencing the season’s coldest wave and Michigan is one of them. National Weather Service has announced weather advisories for many regions in the western Michigan including Grand Rapids which saw many schools closings as well. On Wednesday, the residents of Grand Rapids experienced quite a variety of weather of weather changes as snow and rain graced the city one after the other with minor breaks. Wet and snow precipitation forced men, women, and children to remain inside their houses.
Weather agencies have warned about a winter storm which is expected to hit Grand Rapids on Thursday evening. Temperature is decreasing everyday and snow is accumulating on the road. With alternating frozen and wet precipitation, the highways have becomes slick. Transport Department of the Grand Rapids regions have advised to avoid driving but much traffic was observed on Wednesday noon.
Weather forecasters have announced that more snowfall is expected and at least 2 inches snow will fall on Thursday. Winds gusts of 35 mph are also expected and the it would cause drifting snow which could lead to a white-out situation. As the winter storm forecasts have been made, Grand Rapids Arts Museum has announced its closing on Thursday evening. The museum administration has announced that the Grand Rapids museum will remain open till 1 p.m. only.
The school superintendents in Grand Rapids talked to a local news paper and said that school closings are expected as it is not wise to call students to school when all the roads are blocked with ice. However, the website of Grand Rapids Public Schools have not made any announcement about closings on its website. Some local news papers have listed the names of those public and private schools and educational institutes which will remain closed for next few days. The students of Grand Rapids Public schools can visit the website to check with their respective institutes.
