The Greenland Shark is a massive creature which can weigh up to a thousand kilograms and has many different names which it is called by. The most common name for the Greenland Shark is the Grey Shark and as the name suggests it is found in the waters of the North Atlantic Ocean near the country Greenland. The Greenland Shark can reach a total length of up to twenty-four feet which is close to the size of the Pacific Sleeper Shark. The shark falls in the family of Somniosidae and is classified as the S. Microcephalus species.
The range of the depth in which the shark is found varies as there have been occurrences of it being found in waters as shallow as twenty-four feet but the general depth at which the Greenland Shark can be found is roughly two kilometers below the oceans surface.
The shark is semi blind as it is believed that it can detect the presence of light. The blindness of the shark comes through a bacteria that attaches itself to the cornea of the shark and causes blindness by eating away on the tissue that the cornea is made up of. The meat of the shark isn’t edible as it contains neurotoxins which might end up intoxicating you with a feeling similar to that of being drunk. However, the shark can be eaten in a few ways, the first is to boil it and change the water a number of times till the toxins are removed while the second way is to leave it to decay for a bit.
