Portland center player Greg Oden receives a knee injury and is likely to miss the whole season.
According to the details, during the match between Trail Blazer against Houston Rockets Oden was grounded after having a collision with Aaron Brooks. He was running when a fast-approaching Aaron Brooks came midway and collided with Greg Oden. He got his knee crunched. Oden dropped on the floor and fellow players started approaching him. The crowd at the Rose Garden stadium stood up and started chanting his name. The umpire stopped the game for 7 minutes and paramedics were called. Oden was put gently on the stretcher and was taken out of the stadium. An MRI scan was conducted shortly after he was wheeled out of the stadium.
Later, the Blazers released the news that he will need a surgery to heal his injury. His knee cap got fractured. The Blazers coach says that no timetable of his return could be released yet and speculations are being made that he might not return for this whole season. The coach said that it was a sad news for the team and for Greg too as he had worked hard for the season. Greg Oden said in a statement that he will be back and he is thankful to his fans and his fellow players for ‘their good thoughts’.
Greg Oden, the 7-footer, has have history of injuries. He underwent a minor injury on right knee and missed the rookie season. He missed the games against the Lakers and sat out of 14 games after All-star break due to injuries and surgeries. Greg Oden finished the season with an average of 8.9 points and 7 rebounds.
