Guadalcanal was a battle by the Allied forces made in World War 2. This war took place in between August 1942 and February 1943.It was a big offense against the Japanese by the Allied forces. It was fought in the Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. The Americans used the Guadalcanal Island to make a base and capture Japanese. The forces capture the Guadalcanal Island when the Japanese were making their airfield. During the war the Japanese tried their best to re-capture the Guadalcanal Island from the United States Army.
The World War 2 ended when the Japanese stopped their struggle to re-capture the Guadalcanal Island after they had lost significant number of troops. The Allied forces included Australia, British, New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and the United States army.
After the Japanese had accepted their defeat the Guadalcanal Island was established as a base for the Allied forces. It has airfield and naval port for warships and supplies transport. Steven Spielberg produced a miniseries which depicted the story of the Guadalcanal war and showed the lives of the Allied forces at that time. The war lasted for 6 months.
The Guadalcanal war proved to be expensive for both the Japanese and the Allied forces. The American forces had an advantage for their aircraft carrier. The Japanese evacuated their remaining forces from the Guadalcanal when the saw their defeat. The Japanese were short of aircrafts but had a superior naval force. The movie Saving Private Ryan was also a tribute o the allied forces
