The world is going crazy for designers as a new group calling itself the Guilt Group has launched its website on the worldwide web. I will refer to the group as Guilt Group from now on because many of you are of the view that that is how it’s spelt. The Guilt Group are one of the most cunning groups to have surfaced in today’s market and I am guessing that Darwin must have been right when he came out with the theory of natural selection and survival of the fittest because the Guilt Group has adapted to the psyche of the consumer of today and used it to their advantage.
The Guilt Group is an online sales site where designer clothes are sold at extremely cheap prices. The initial marketing must have been done through emailing the entire population of America though the step that followed after was the one of cunning genius. The Guilt Group is giving away twenty-five dollars to every person who “recruits” a friend to the site. To sign up for the group requires no money as such and all you need to give is your basic details.
The interesting bit that I found about the sales strategy of the company was that they leave the consumer with very little time to make their decision, and its obvious that when one sees a price of a thousand dollars reduced to a hundred and fifty most would think that they don’t need to think twice on such a big discount but even if the buyer were given a minute to think about how much they actually want the item, they would ditch it in a second. Sales start at midday and most items are sold out minutes later creating all the more panic and haste in the buyer’s decision. An item, one put into the shopping cart, may only be held for ten minutes before it is released. The whole trick of the site is that it makes you think that you need to buy the item and you need to buy it soon. Kudos to the Guilt Group.
