I would indulge in the details later but first H1N1 vaccine benefits far outweigh the risks, so get the high risk people vaccinated as earlier possible. Most of the risks are associated with a substance that is added in the vaccines called Thimerosol. The substance contains mercury and mercury in its turn is especially harmful for the developing fetuses in pregnant women. Having said that, number one, Thimerosol free vaccine is available and numbers two the quantity of mercury is so low that it is not expected to pose significant danger.
H1N1 has caused the death of some 477 people in USA, 40 of which were children. At the moment CDC has released a limited number of vials of flu vaccine to get the high risk population vaccinated against the swine flu. However the shortage is expected to be covered in the month of November and anybody can be vaccinated.
Pregnant mothers are at higher risk of being infected because as fetus grows it presses the lungs making it difficult to breathe and women have to take deep breaths. Moreover the immune system is bit compromised making them an easy target for H1N1.
Special precautions should be taken in case of children also, as they can very easily get infected in schools.
Meanwhile the clinics are complaining about the vaccine shortage. CDC officials have explained that it is difficult to prepare the vaccine and hence the delays. However there seems no reason to panic and the federal authorities have promised to make ample vaccines available in November.
