In the hours following the terrifying earthquake the jolted the cities, towns and villages of Chile this morning Hawaii has been issued a Tsunami warning. The exact intensity of the waves is not yet clear but it is predicted that they will be the largest waves to hit Hawaii since 1964 when a tsunami, also triggered by a tremendous earthquake, killed as many as sixty one people.
The Hawaii evacuation zones were cleared out at six in the morning today and the authorities were of the view that technological advances had given them time to plan out a smooth evacuation of the Hawaii evacuation zones. The tourist district, it was thought should not be asked to evacuate if the coastal areas are being evacuated as part of the Hawaii evacuation zones because it would cause a huge problem in terms of traffic jams that would gridlock the road network of the island.
The earthquake that was followed by two more jolts of tremors measuring 6.2 and 5.6 is expected to cause a major change in the behavior of the Pacific Ocean and could effect countries as far away as Australia though the Australian government hasn’t issued a warning as yet, just an alert asking the residents of coastal areas to be on the lookout.
The authorities in Hawaii expressed that sirens had been used three hours prior to the oncoming waves in order to alert the population within the Hawaii evacuation zones so they could evacuate easily and calmly. Before evacuation the local grocery stores and supermarkets saw a rush as people were gathering the relevant supplies they would need after evacuating.
