North Carolina rep. Heath Shuler opposed the health care bill which was passed last Saturday night. Heath Shuler and few other Democrats resisted the Democratic Party’s decision to approve the bill.
In a written statement, Heath Shuler said that the bill will cost $1.055 trillion and still fails to include the deficit decrement measures. He further said that any law which does not help the state government to reduce the cost and spending should be seen as ‘unwise.’
Heath Shuler says that nay law which involves million in a ‘broken’ system should not be encouraged. He also said that the reforms made in the legislation should promote healthy lifestyle. He said the reforms which increase the amount of dollars federal government is spending on health care will impose new taxes on the common people and hence should not be approved. Shuler, however, give positive comments about the clauses in the legislation which makes health insurers’ policies more people friendly.
Heath Shuler says that he is hopeful that the opposition will convince federal government to ‘draft’ a new solution.
The health care bill which was passed by the house of federal representatives on Saturday night would cover those 30 million individuals who don’t have any medical insurance. The Congressional Budget Office also said that $1.1 trillion cost would be covered by cutting on the Medicare and Medicaid expenses. The bill would require everyone to obtain medical insurance. The businesses would be required to offer medical insurance to their employees otherwise penalty would be charged.
The major reforms in the legislation will be effective from 2013.
