If I have to name one educational institute which is making most of the news, it is definitely Hillsborough Community College. Hillsborough Community College is a two-year community college located in Hillsborough County, Florida. The college consists of five campuses which are located in different areas of the Hillsborough County. The college, which was founded in 1968, is one of the last community colleges which were built in Florida. The college, which has expanded its campuses over the years, has now a capacity of enrolling 43,000 students. The current administrative head Dr. Lyons’ role as the head of the Hillsborough Community College Honors Institute.
Recently, a student from Hillsborough Community College has received a $ 5,000 scholarship from the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS). The society requested application forms from freshmen as well as sophomores having a CGPA of 3.6 and above. Among the applicants, Chen Hongjie’s application impressed the organization which approved a scholarship for her studies at Boston University. Chen is a junior at Hillsborough and is majoring in Philosophy. She will attend Boston University in 2010. NSCS awards are given to one of the outstanding students who are transferring into a four-year degree program from the community college.
Hillsborough Community College is in partnership with many such organizations which helps its students to grow. A recent event marked the college’s partnership with Career Step. Career Step is one of the country’s leading medical education organizations which offer training to the students who aspire to pursue a career in medical transcription and billing.
