Inhalants are misused for the purpose of intoxication by addicts and this practice is widespread throughout the U.S. But the figures may represent a humble view of the actual intensity of abuse. It is because the law enforcement agencies have very less information regarding the signs when a person uses inhalants. Huffing is the inhaling of some chemical substances that cause intoxication.
The prevention is another headache because inhalants are the ordinary products with certain chemicals in it. The easily available household products may contain the deadliest chemicals unlike other popular intoxicants e.g. hard drinks. But the users usually don’t know the dire consequences of huffing. They may inflict brain damage or even sudden death to themselves.
Huffing is found mostly in adolescents but there are adults as well who use this type of intoxication. The presence of nitrites in such household products may enhance sexual performance in adults. So they take the risk of their life for this purpose.
Huffing which is the inhalation of chemical vapors gives a different state of mind called “euphoric effect”. The interesting thing about the availability of the inhalants is that they can be found in more than 1000 products. There are many types of inhalants e.g. volatile solvents, aerosols, gases, nitrites etc.
Paint thinners, nail polishes and different types of gums are the type of volatile solvents. As far as the statistics of the huffing is concerned, the inhalants come at the fourth position among the “the most abused” chemicals among teenagers. The alarming aspect of the abuse is that the number of teenage users is increasing day by day.
