James Arness was put into a bit of a bad mood yesterday, the fourteenth of March 2010, as he got the news that his brother Peter Graves had passed away. Though initially both James Arness and Peter had the same name, Peter thought it would be better to change the last name he used as to avoid confusing people about whom was who. James Arness is the man who played the role of Marshall Matt Dillon on the longest television series to run in the history of America before the year 2009 after which it was beaten in duration by the series called “The Simpsons.”
“Gunsmoke” in which James had acted started off as a radio series but then moved to the television in the year 1955 after which it aired for twenty whole seasons till the year 1975.
Peter Graves, who was actually younger than James, suffered from a cardiac arrest after he had reached his home located in the district of Pacific Palisades in California. He was with his daughter at the time the arrest took place and she had tried to help him by giving him CPR but there wasn’t much she could do to bring him back to health. The police also looked into the incident and later declared that Peter had indeed died of natural causes and there wasn’t any suspicion of foul play in his death. The actor has acted in a number of series including the popular series Mission Impossible in which he played the role of James Phelps.
