Jayson Williams who retired earlier this year from his basketball career with the Nets was found guilty today in a trial that started six years ago. The trial was first held in the year 2004 in which Jayson Williams was charged with aggravated manslaughter. The incident involved him shooting his limo driver in the chest with a shotgun.
Jayson Williams was at his estate in the Alexandria Township when the shooting occurred in the year 2002. Christofi, the limo driver was fifty-five years of age when he was shot. The story of Jayson Williams is that he had been careless in assessing the situation when he picked up his shotgun. He had not checked whether the safety mechanism of the gun was on or off or whether even the gun was loaded. Upon closing the hatch of the shotgun the gun went off shooting Christofi in the chest.
He appeared in court and was sincerely apologetic to his family for not being the father, husband and son that he could be saying that he was sorry for the pain he had caused his own family. Apart from that he was also sincerely regretting his actions since whatever he could do would not bring Christofi back to life. Christofi’s sister Andrea was much dismayed in these eight years that Jayson Williams has been allowed to walk free saying that she could not withstand the concept of him walking free for all these years as if her brothers death had not even mattered to him. The court has given him a sentence of five years which may be reduced to eighteen months and then parole if he behaves well.
