Headline: Reported hostage threat at an office building in Jefferson City was a false alarm.
An office building in Jefferson City was evacuated and thoroughly searched by the police after it received reports of hostage.
According to the details, a female employee who works at an agency in the building received a phone call which she believed gave her the message of hostage situation. She received the call through intercom. The woman told her supervisor immediately who talked to the security company of the office building. The security informed the police about the situation.
The Jefferson City police arrived at the building shortly after 10 a.m. and searched it thoroughly. After making sure that no hostage was found inside the building, police reopened it. Two tactical teams from the police supervised the whole search operation.
The office building was located near Capitol building and state governor’s office hence making the situation even more sensitive. Receiving the news, the police arrived at the scene immediately. A team of police officials surrounded the Governor Office. Officers from law enforcement agencies took position around the governor’s office with assault rifles. Some officers gathered in the front yard and closed the front street. A police helicopter also circled the area.
Before the arrival of the police the office building security started making announcement about possible hostage situation to inform the workers present inside the building. The police, after searching the building, concluded the report a false alarm and asked the workers to get back to their work. The police officials said that they are looking for the origin of the hostage threat. It is not known whether the police would involve that female employee in its investigation or not.
After the search was completed, Jefferson City police reopened the streets.
