Last year’s cancer surgery forced Jerry Remy not to take seat inside the booth indefinitely until fully recovered from the effects.
Red Sox announcer Jerry Remy a color commentator and a former smoker went under the lung cancer surgery late last year and were expected to take over the announcers chair this season but due to surgery complications he will no longer be able to join the booth.
The announcement was made by the “New England Sports Network” on Wednesday that Jerry Remy cancer complications are not letting him take his old job back. Jerry Remy said that he want to focus on his revitalization completely so that he can come back to work without interruption or disturbance.
Jerry Remy was anticipated to return instantly but undergo a hinder due to surgery complications and consequent case of pneumonia. Jerry Remy and his announcement partner “Don Orsillo” were doing play by play announcements from 1988 up till 2001for New England Sports Network.
Red Sox chairman Tom Werner said that we will greatly miss Jerry Remy in the broadcast, but what is important at this stage is his recovery and he can take as much time as he needs to recover, he also said that Jerry is dearly loved by us and by the fans, and on behalf of everyone in Red Sox Nation, I want him to know that he is in our thoughts.
Jerry Remy has been elected as the president of “Red Sox Nation” the official fan club for the team.
It was also announced that “Dennis Eckersley” the Hall of Famer pitcher and the Red Sox studio analyst will be joining the booth with “Don Orsillo”.
