The 45 year old Ex-Yankee World Series hero and a major league player Jim Leyritz, checked himself into a Hollywood, Florida Hospital, “psychiatric ward” for his stress treatment. Jim Leyritz is waiting for his trail in Fort Lauderdale. Jim Leyritz killed a woman in a car crash in Dec, 2007 and is facing charges on DUI manslaughter. According to police this week Jim Leyritz called a friend in NJ threatening to commit suicide.
According to media reports on Wednesday night Jim checked himself into a Hollywood Hospital’s psychiatric ward willingly after being taken there by the Police.
Lt. Bill Coyne with Davie Police said that the former catcher and designated hitter Jim Leyritz become upset after a monitoring device was installed in his car according to the court orders to monitor his blood alcohol content disallowed the car to start.
Jim Leyritz told the police that he did not used alcohol. Apparently there was no evidence of drug or alcohol use as per officer’s report, but a urine sample was taken also, if the test comes positive it will be the violation of his bailing grounds.
Jim’s friend in New Jersey placed a call to 911 to Davie police after taking a distressed call from Leyritz, where as Jim Leyritz told the Davie police that he was stressed and having trouble sleeping he also told the police that he is nervous and need medical attention.
J. David Bogenschutz the attorney for Jim Leyritz told the press that his client did everything according to the orders on Wednesday night, he did not consumed any alcoholic beverages or any drugs and when his cars interlock device gave him the problem, he went to his probation officer immediately and took the urine test to prove that he has not been drinking.
