John Mislow, 39 with his friend 36-year-old Andrew Swanson were roped together Thursday 11th June, 2009 when they fell 2,000 ft to their death from the 20,320 ft peak “Mount McKinley” in Denali National Park, Alaska.
John Mislow and his longtime friend and climbing partner Andrew Swanson took great pleasure in the difficulty of climbing peaks in Bolivia, Peru, and Alaska, but their latest expedition prove to be their last.
John Mislow of Newton, Mass and Andrew Swanson of Minnesota were both doctor’s by profession and longtime climbing partner who enjoy and love climbing and were considered experienced climbers.
John Mislow was a graduate of Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago and was a 5th year neurosurgery resident at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. According to the Princeton University website for alumni from where John Mislow completed his undergraduate degree, he climbed or at-least attempted to climb the Mount Everest peak.
According to the press release of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, John Mislow was not only a brilliant surgeon and researcher but he was a devoted husband, father and a friend too.
Spokesperson for “Denali National Park, Alaska” Maureen McLaughlin said that a different team saw Dr. John Mislow and Dr. Andrew Swanson fall from the 16,500ft height to 14,500ft, but many factors about the fall is unknown yet including its starting point and whether the climbers were climbing or coming down.
