Judy Collins is famed folk music composer and lyricist. The suicide of her son gave her life a mission and she derives her motivation from the deep scars the suicide left. Her music gives a message of hope to all who have been through a trauma in their lives. She has gone on to be a UNICEF member and has been vocal against the landmines.
Social activism and her music have remained hand in hand throughout his career. Early in her career she has written a poem for Che Guevera. She has been a child hood prodigy and made her first public appearance at an early age of 13 by performing Mozart. Starting from Piano she discovered guitar as her instrument of choice. She has been with Elektra records for 35 years.
Judy Collins’ first marriage was with Peter Taylor. With Taylor she had his only son named Clark C. Taylor (who committed suicide).
In many ways the suicide has given her life and music a mission and direction. She has recently written a book titled “A Journey of Suicide, Survival and Strength”.
In 1962 she was admitted in a sanatorium to recover from a bout of tuberculosis. She was a heavy smoker also. Recovering from Tuberculosis she found herself deep into an eating disorder.
Judy Collins’ life is a story of courage and persistence in the face of adversity and she has not retained the natural gift to herself alone. She has shared her gift with others and has made others to have faith and persevere in the face of life’s challenges.
