Katie Lang, originally named Kathryn Dawn Lang and also going by the current name of K.D Lang was given the honor of singing Leonard Cohen’s world renown song “Hallelujah” at the opening ceremony of the winter Olympics which are currently being held in Vancouver.
Born on the second of November just a little less than fifty years ago, Katie Lang rose to her fame at an early age of twenty-six years. Katie Lang was born in Edmonton which is the capital of the Canadian province of Alberta.
Katie Lang’s passion for music came about when she enrolled in the Red Deer College after completing her secondary education. It was there that she was introduced to the music of Patsy Cline. She immediately fell in love with the music and decided that if there was one thing she was going to spend her life doing, it was music. Her journey towards becoming a professional musician had begun under the influence of Patsy Cline, a well known American singer of country music who was considered to be the most influential vocalist in the twentieth century.
Katie Lang was first publicly acknowledged when she was chosen by Roy Orbison to accompany him in a tour around the country. She was part of three females who made up the backing vocals for Roy. In the annum 1989 she received a Grammy Award for doing a duet with Roy on one of his songs titled “Crying.” The Grammy Award was given under the category of Best Country Collaboration with Vocals and gave Lang the desired promotion her career needed.
