Kitty Carlisle was a singer and actress, who was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on 3rd of September, 1910. Her birth name was Catherine Conn and she was called Kitty as her nickname. Kitty Carlisle is well known for her regular panelist on the TV game show “To Tell the Truth”. She served twenty years on the “New York State Council on Arts”. Kitty Carlisle got the “National Medal of Arts” form the President Bush in 1991.
She belongs to a “German Jewish” family. When she was ten years old her father “Dr. Joseph Conn” died who was a Gynecologist. Hortense Holtzman Conn was the mother of Kitty Carlisle, who was a daughter of 1st Jewish Mayor of “Shreveport, Louisiana”. Kitty Carlisle got her early education in New Orleans. Her mother took her to Europe in 1921. Afterwards Kitty Carlisle was educated in “Switzerland” and then at the “London School of Economics and Sorbonne”. Kitty Carlisle studied acting at the “Royal Academy of Dramatic Art” in London.
Kitty Carlisle returned to “New York” with her mother in 1932, here she appeared in American premiere of “Benjamin Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia” and billed as “Kitty Carlisle” on “Broadway” in numerous musical comedies and operettas. Later on she appeared in many Television shows and Films proved herself as an actress and singer. Kitty Carlisle died on 17th of April, 2007 due to Congestive Heart Failure resultant from a prolonged attack of pneumonia. Kitty Carlisle died in her apartment very peacefully and was buried in a crypt at “Ferncliff Cemetery” in Hartsdale, New York.
