Since 1991 KWOD 106.5 radio station was the most dominating station which has been playing Alternative music for Sacramento, CA but not anymore as from Friday 22nd May 2009 KWOD is shutting down its transition forever according to their website.
Curtiss Johnson Program Director for KWOD wrote on the website that back then when the term “Alternative” was not even invented were the days of good music until some hypothetical marketing intellect came out with the term. He also said that KWOD has been fighting with challenges for last few years as most of the business owners and companies have been shut down because of last year’s economic slump of the market.
Johnson said that KWOD 106.5 radio station took many steps in last few years to improve the situation, but eventually it was not enough. In addition he said that it was local decision which was hard and personal. We have to acknowledge that we have fought hard over the years to save our beloved KWOD channel but eventually we turned short in our efforts and were not able to produce the results we needed.
Whereas Curtiss Johnson did not revealed the future plans for KWOD, even though no less than one source said that a new radio station by the name of “The Buzz” will be launched in the replacement of KWOD station but all the present hits will be discarded and 1990’s music will be the focus for this rebranded radio station.
