Lalah Hathaway the R&B and Jazz singer has been nominated for Grammy Award in the category of “Best Female R&B vocal Performance”. Lalah Hathaway has been nominated for the song “That was then” from her album “Self Portrait” released in March 2008. The song was at 105th rank on the “hot R&B charts”. The other singers nominated for the same category are Jasmine Sullivan for her song “Tigers & Bears”, Ledisi for “going thru changes and lions”, Melanie Fiona for the song “it kills me” and Beyonce for her song “Ladies”
Lalah Hathaway is the daughter of the “soul” singer Donny Hathaway. Born to singing parents music was her hereditary trait. She came to it in 10th grade. Lalah’s first song “inside the beat” was released by “virgin records” in 1989. Her first album titled “Lalah Hathaway” was released in 1990.
“Self portrait” is her fifth album that reflects who she is and where she is. She says that the album is a movie of her life. In her self portrait she assumes to be a smart, confident and funny woman who is wealthy and has traveled a lot.
“That was then” the nominated song of Lalah Hathaway was written by her and St. Victor and she is a co-producer of the song with Rideout.
Lalah Hathaway remains connected to her father and wants to leave a legacy like him. She thinks that music is the “sole entity” in her life and she will say goodbye to music only on her deathbed.
