As for now Lechuguilla Cave is known to be the world’s fifth longest cave, measuring up to 205KM, situated at the Carlsbad, New Mexico, Lechuguilla Cave is located just 5 miles above from the Carlsbad Caverns of the Carlsbad Caverns National Park.
Only Scientists, researchers, expeditors and National Park management people are allowed to access this cave, back in 1986 this Lechuguilla Cave was not much of significance and was known as a small historic site, but now is known to the world as one of the deepest caves of United States. The entrance for this cave is around 90ft wide and is know by the name of Misery hole, this entrance lead to a dead-end passage of the cave which is about 400ft wide.
Back in 2007 for the first time in a BBC documentary series know as Planet Earth, Lechuguilla Cave was introduced, when a team of film makers and explorers went into the cave to film different parts of this fabulous piece of History, this documentary includes the noteworthy Chandelier Ballroom where delicate crystals are found. The important thing I would like to tell you is that it took this team of expeditors and filmmakers two years to get the permission to film this cave.
