Leesburg hostage situation ended after 10 hours resulting in no casualties at around 10:00 P.M yesterday on 10 July, 2009. The gun man who held hostages an elderly couple for several hours in their Leesburg home, William Spencer 49, has been apprehended by cops, he will be facing multiple felony charges.
According to authorities the hostages an 83-year-old man named Robert P. Belote, and his wife Frances W. Belote, 82 are considered to be in good shape. Belote is a former press operator, who used to work for The Washington post and his wife was a retired estate agent were held hostage around noon yesterday after the gun man “William Spencer” tried to rob a Other Kind of Jewelry Store on East Market Street.
Leesburg police chased the robber, believed to be in mid 40s on foot but lost him numerous times during the chase, according to the police the man stole a car and dumped it after a short time near Valley View Avenue, where he forced himself in to the elderly couples home and held them hostage.
Police then received a 911 call inside the home about the hostage situation; police have surrounded the area and evacuated a complete city block, whereas many residents were asked by the police to stay in their homes.
According to police statement many shots were fired from inside the house but fortunately no one was hurt. William Spencer the man holding the hostage released the woman around 9:00 P.M and surrendered himself soon after. Robert P. Belote was later discovered inside the home unharmed.
