Meteor shower is the out-burst of shining particles of the debris emitted by Comet Tempel-Turtle. Earth experiences the shower when it is passes through the dust. This event happens in November every year. When the earth passes through the particles, they enter the earth’s atmosphere and attain a very high velocity of 238,000 km/h and consequently the air resistance ignites them and the fire-works can be seen on the sky. The shining lines of fire are due to this friction. The meteors in this month seem to originate from a particular spot in the sky where the constellation Leo is located. The word “Lionids” is derived from this ‘lion’ (Leo). The sky-watchers will have the best opportunity of viewing the Leonids Shower on 7th of November depending upon the weather conditions. The best time to view the Leonids shower is after midnight until sunrise. According to Astronomy Senior Editor Richard Talcott is of the view that it would be very good chance of viewing because this time meteors can be seen with the rate of 20 to 30 meteors per hour. He expected that the rate would be even greater this year. He told that the fortunate viewers can see even hundreds of meteors and the unfortunate will see only around ten meteors. People in the United States who are fond of watching are required to get very early in the morning and to find a good dark location out of cities to view the phenomenon clearly.
