TCM once again have given us the opportunity to see how deceiving classic movies can be, so that you can forget all the chores of home and work needed to be done, and this time TMC have selected Leslie Caron as a perfect performer and actress. TMC will be running Leslie Caron specials all month long—ever Monday an amazing movie will be presented for the viewers and this Monday it is going to be the best-known musical “An American In Paris.
The film was 1951 flick “An American In Paris.” It was musical films era and Leslie Caron’s talents exactly matched the requirements of the role. She was a trained ballet dancer. Her mother Margaret Petit was a ballerina and had encouraged Leslie Caron to take dancing classes and it was in a ballet production that she was spotted and was offered the role later on.
TCM has announced October as the month of Leslie Caron, the first of her films being shown on the channel would be An American in Paris. The movie was crowned as the Best Film of the year among 7 academy awards. Leslie was 20 at the time she was cast for the role. The film is about love triangle between the hero, who is a struggling painter in Paris, a rich heiress and Lise–the heroine.
Leslie Caron was a perfect dancer, singer and an actress and spoke fluent French and English – a killer combination of talents, won her the acclaim of one of the best actress of musical films. But her fame was not at limited to the musical films. Her skills meant that she was to stay on the films scene, long after the musical films era has passed.
The interesting part of Leslie Caron’s career is that she is still working and won her first ever Emmy at the age of 75 for her character of an elderly woman in 2006 on a T.V series.
