‘He was company’s one of the most popular and charismatic legends,’ says World Wrestling Entertainment as it pays tribute to one of the most legendary wrestlers Albano who passed away on Wednesday. He was 76. The cause of his death has not been disclosed till recently. According to a magazine, Albano was hospitalized and was in hospice care for last many weeks due to illness.

Lou Albano began his wrestling career in 1960s along with Vincent J. McMahon. He was part of a wrestlers’ team which were titled The Sicilians. According to a biography, Lou Albano started as tag team wrestles but soon became an unbeaten manager of the champion wrestlers. He was known for his signature style which included his beard which was often tied with a rubber band at the bottom and his trademark unbuttoned Hawaiian shirts. According to his bio on WWE website, his personality won him the title of ‘one of the most hated men’ in the wrestling world. However, his image improvised when he started appearing in music videos of singer Lauper alongside his wrestling. He is probably most famous for his appearance in Cyndi Lauper’s music video for the song ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun.’ As his celebrity image grew, he landed many acting roles as well. Albano appeared in various episodes of Miami Vice. Lou Albano was also cartooned for 17 episodes of ‘The Super Mario Bros’. He also did the voice of the character Jumpman.
Lou Albano was included in WWE Hall of Fame in 1996.
