Maine Prop1 is the proposition to stop the law legalizing the homosexual marriages coming into effect. Maine has recently passed the law allowing gay marriages and as people can veto the law by voting in a ballot is being held to get the opinion of the public. The ballot has special importance for the groups who are in the favor of the same sex marriages. As lot would be the first case where people would make or break the law legalizing the gay marriages.
Yes, same sex marriages have been allowed in five states already, but the legalization had come either through legislature or through the orders of a court. That would not be the case in Maine. If people negate Maine prop1 they would have spoken their mind clearly. On the other hand if most people put yes against the Maine Prop1 it would definitely be a bad news for homosexual couples and the groups advocating the gay rights. There are two facets to the legislature, one is that if the law is overturned it would set precedence and it would be more likely that other states would follow suit. Moreover it would set an example encouraging the people in other states to do the same.
Supporters of the homosexual marriages have put the blame on religious group for pouring money to win the vote and vice versa. As of the last reports polls showed public opinion for same sex marriages winning the votes.
Both sides are asking their supporters to do whatever they can to win this ballot.
