Stefania Fernandez crowned Miss Universe 2009
The crown of Miss Universe 2009 has been won by Stefania Fernandez who already has a title of Miss Venezuela, hence making back to the country with the second caps. The beauty contest was organized here on Sunday amongst 83 competitors in Nassau, a capital of Island Nation.
According to details, 18-year-old Stefania Fernandez, having Ukrainian, Galician, Russian and Polish origins, had been crowned by her compatriot Dayana Mendoza, Miss Universe 2008, on Sunday evening in the Bahamas, 23-year-old and belonging to Ada de la Cruz Republic, Miss Dominican was placed as the first runner-up for this exalted crown, whereas, 18-year-old from Marigona Dragusha Miss Kosovo was named as second runner-up.
According to the Miss Universe website, Miss Northern Marianas, Miss Kazakhstan, and Miss Trinidad Tobago were removed from the contest due to less financing, while Jewel Selver, Miss Turks and Caicos, withdrew from the contest, quoting dehydration. 21-year-old Wang Jingyao, Miss China, was named Miss Congeniality and 23-year-old Chutima Durongdej, Miss Thailand, was selected for Miss Photogenic.
It is worth mentioning that Venezuela has won five Miss World, five caps of Miss Universe, and four crowns of Miss International, more than any other country. Back to the history, the first Miss Universe contest was held at Long Beach Municipal Auditorium in 1952, in which, 30 competitors took part and the winner was an 18-year-old Finland’s Armi Kuusela.
