
Mary Cassatt full name was Mary Stevenson Cassatt she was born in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania on 22nd May, 1844. She spends most of her adulthood life in France. Her father “Robert Simpson Cassatt” was a triumphant stock agent and a land investor whereas her mother, Katherine Kelso Johnston was from a rich banking family.
Women were form professional links in the art world long before getting the right to vote or to set foot in a work place and Mary Cassatt is one of those women who determined their lives to become the better and working part of the society.
A group of five friends meet in Greenwich Village studio and this was the beginning of National Association of Women Artists. This was the group of five women painters and history have defined them as magnificent women artists when they all changed the course of history by changing the image of creative women in the pages of man’s world. This group “National Association of Women Artists” is present up till today and they are celebrating its 120th anniversary. At the UBS Art Gallery in Midtown an exhibition has been arranged under the watchful eye of this association by the name of “A Parallel Presence: National Association of Women Artists, 1889-2009.”
The show’s first few galleries were conquered by the impersonator Berthe Morisot and Mary Cassatt as they have portray the scenes of upper-class girls and women freedom, however the Berthe Morisot and Mary Cassatt were not the members of the society, but their work was exhibited in the gallery as an respected guests.
