The movie “The People Vs Leo Frank” is an attempt to revive the story of injustice that still saddens the people. The film revolves around the story of rape and murder of a thirteen years old girl Mary Phagan. The tragedy film is premiering on Monday at 10 p.m. The movie contains expert research on the true story. The movie revives the story of the criminal trial of Leo Frank who was from Brooklyn and worked as supervisor of the National Pencil Co. The 13-year old girl, who was a factory worker, was molested and then murdered by an unknown offender.
When police couldn’t find any clue, they caught Frank as prime-suspect without any solid ground and evidence. The flawed investigation of police held him responsible for the offence. On the other hand a person was made an eye-witness of the crime. Here is the point where the film maker drives audience’s attention towards the discrimination which was being demonstrated against Frank who was white Northern and the victim of prejudice by the local southern officials who deemed him as outsider. On the other hand, Conley was considered as the native and “reliable”.
The story revolves around the trial of Frank against whom there was no solid evidence yet biased police investigation held him erroneously guilty and the judges of lower courts convicted him with the death sentence. The Supreme Court lessened the sentence and the punishment was reduced to life-imprisonment. Enraged by the decision, the people made a lot of hue and cry. The elite men abducted him from the jail and hanged him their self. Although, the film throws light on the miscarriage of justice due to discrimination and prejudice of people yet it seems to be an implied satire on the current circumstances in the U.S. which have different forms of discrimination and inept government measures that are resulting in to unemployment at the expense of nurturing the elite.
