Don Rhodes, who met Mary at three different occasions in three different years, recalled that she was a very refined and kind woman. He writes that once in a very cold and windy afternoon, Mary came to his coffee shop with Peter and Paul. When asked if they would like to eat something, Mary requested a soup. Don recalls that when he was presenting the soup to her, he noticed that there was wax on the sides of the cup which have melted with the heat and could be seen on the surface. He writes that he was afraid that the Grammy winner would make tantrums but to his surprise Mary thanked him and paid him a 1 dollar bill. Don says it was one of the best memories of his life.
