Halloween is just around the corner and almost every community is planning to celebrate Halloween in its own way. One of the most famous parties which are planned on Halloween is Masquerade Ball.
Masquerade Ball is an event which is attended by wearing a mask and costumes. Masquerade Balls are organized throughout the year in different countries of the world and it is a part of many cultures. But Halloween is an occasion when such balls are organized for adults. Halloween brings so many festivities for minors and kids. They go from house to house to collect candies and other eatables form the adults. Kids usually dress up in some costume which is prepared for the occasion specially. They visit neighboring homes in group and collect candies form the adults. Halloween is usually called a festival for children but there is always fun for adults too. Many communities arrange events and throws parties such as Masquerade Balls in which adults are requested to come in costumes. Special preparations are made in advance for masquerade parties. Couples often make similar costumes. Music and dance is an essential part of such parties.
Masquerade Balls – A History
Masquerade balls have a rich history. They have been arranged for many centuries. It has a long history which dates back to 15th century when such balls were a part of the wedding ceremonies and other celebrations at royal courts. During the 16th century Renaissance, masquerade balls were extended to public and Italians were the first to bring it out from the walls of the court rooms onto the streets. For many years it remained a part of Venetian culture only.
During the eighteenth century, the culture of costumed parties was introduced to London and colonial America. Though it was initially opposed by many socialites of those times, who called it ‘foreign influence’, the majority of the public community adopted it quickly and soon it became a part of their culture too. Today, masquerade balls are held in Europe and America alike.
Masquerade Balls are an important part of many operas. The most famous musical The Phantom of the Opera also includes scenes from a masquerade ball.
