Judge asked for extra proof in “sex sting verdict” in Petaluma case would analysis acceptability of proof against East Bay doctor Maurice Wolin. Dr. Maurice Wolin aged 51 was arrested during a 3-day police sting operation which was held in August of 2006, the operation was performed with the cooperation with NBC TV producers of dateline and advocacy group “Perverted Justice” to catch a predator TV series.
During the sting the two hours of filming shows men coming to an East Petaluma home supposedly to meet with an underage girl or boy with which they had already arranged the meeting online. Dr Maurice Wolin was one of those 29 men who got arrested on that night of August 2006.
Xavier Von Erck the founder of “Perverted Justice” told the prosecutors that the hard disk on which they recorded the chats of Dr. Maurice Wolin was crashed 2 years ago and the data on the hard disk cannot be recovered.
Whereas the attorneys for Dr. Maurice Wolin said that the proof was a decoy, he also questioned the truthfulness and motives of Xavier Von Erck by questioning the timing of the suspected computer crash. Xavier takes a salary of $125,000 from Perverted Justice whereas the organization was paid $140,000 for the sting.
Dr. Maurice Wolin is accused with attempted vulgar behavior with a child, a criminal act that could get him 4 years of sentence if proven, not only that but Wolin would also have to register as a sex criminal for life. Dr Maurice Wolin’s medical license has also been suspended until the case has been cleared. However Dr. Maurice Wolin is not under-arrest, he was set free on bail shortly after his arrest.
