Hawaii coach Greg McMackin express regrets and apologized in a press conference on yesterday Thursday, 31st July for making an insulting and describing a Notre Dame’s traditions with a gay slur during last year’s Hawaii Bowl. He was suspended from his duties without pay for thirty days and has “volunteered” to take an additional 7% pay cut out of his $1.1 million earnings for describing one of Notre Dame’s traditions with a gay slur during the Western Athletic Conference media preview.
Greg McMackin “insulting” slur created an extensive national conflagration of controversy, particularly from a local gay and lesbian community, and from the Polynesian community, but just hours later, apologizing from communities nationally with reddened eyes and heart full of emotion, self-angry Greg McMackin said that he is disappointed in himself.
During the press conference, where players and assistant coaches were present Greg McMackin speak to reporters and media personals said about his Slur that he made a big mistake and he is sorry and would like to apologize from anyone and everyone who is hurt from his remarks, he said this is a lesson for him to learn from his mistakes and to make me a better person in future life.
Moreover, he said that he should have never brought Norte Dame’s chant in his discussion and he is sorry that he said something so upsetting and hurtful and he is very repentant.
