When abnormality and deformity becomes your specialty, it brings enthusiasm and zest towards life. Shiloh Pepin, ten years old, peculiar girl born with an unusual condition known as ‘mermaid syndrome,’ has died. She had been admitted to hospital in serious condition for nearly a week before her death on Friday.
Shiloh’s a decade long life was a feat and noble achievement for her because when she was born, surgeons and physicians thought she would endure only a few days.
She has an extraordinary peculiar physical condition. Her legs are fused or merged from the waist down, she had lack of genital organs, and only one of her kidneys partly functioned, according to doctors. She didn’t undergo surgery for the reason that her vessels for blood circulation traversed from side to side would have been detached. She was hardly saved with the doctors comments that she can survive just for a couple of weeks. Her mother took special care for her and succeeded to bring her back to life.
Leslie Pepin, her mother said that this cold, early October was bad for her, and on 10th of October she fell into pneumonia. She was hurried to the hospital for treatment and retained on antibiotics and ventilator.
Shiloh was a student of grade 5 at Kennebunkport Consolidated School in Maine and obtained national fame and recognition as the ‘Mermaid Girl’ after she appeared on a special show on TLC and ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’. She was an intelligent and bright child. Her mother said she was very brave and confident and she did everything with enthusiasm in life. Though she can’t walk like other children but the quality of life zest was there.
Shiloh’s funeral is set for Wednesday.
