Researchers are now exploring the possibilities related with a synthetic type of substance called Metamaterials. Naturally, happening substance exhibits behavior based on the molecules that make it up. The atomic material which composes the completed produce determines what properties the produce will have. For example, take the connection between light and wood. Same like other natural matter Wood refracts and reflects light. But how much light it refracts and reflects based on how the electromagnetic waves of the light interrelate with particles (like electrons) which make up the wood.
With Metamaterials, not the parts themselves but the sum of the parts determines how the material behaves. Researchers have come to know that by using certain materials like copper and gold set in definite shapes and patterns. They can also merge the properties of those materials. In short and simple words, we can easily say that the behavior of Metamaterials depends on the properties of the materials which make it up not like other natural matter.
To simplify that how Mettamaterials make something appear invisible? The David R. Smith from Duke University suggests that: Imagine a fabric woven of yarn. In this fabric, light is merely permitted to flow over the clothes (means it cannot journey into the nooks and crannies among the clothes). If you blow a gap in the fabric with the help of pin, light will go about the hole and recommence its unique course of travel, since light can only journey over the thread. So to the light waves, the hole does not exist. If you put an item in the hole, the light waves would go approximately the item too, efficiently depiction the object invisible.
