With Halloween arriving, it is the season of scary movies. With a budget of $11,000, no cinematographer to shoot, no place to film and 7 days on hand, is itself a scary scenario but that exactly was what Oren Peli has at his hands to get the work done. Paranormal is in itself a paranormal feat. Oren Peli’s first major work Paranormal stars Micah Sloat and Katie Featherston. The camera work is done by Katie and Micah taking turns. Both the actors are also in the start of their acting careers.
The shooting takes place at director Oren Peli’s home. The couple has shifted to their new home, the place happens to be haunted by spirits. As Katie has had something haunting her from her childhood, the spirit can be her demons chasing her. Whatever be the reason the couple is forced to investigate the phenomenon. Micah Sloat installs the camera in the bedroom to capture the activity going around in the room. Much of film’s scary effects derive from the fact that viewers watch the movie through the cam installed by Micah. The footage obtained is viewed in the morning. First night, there is some mysterious humming sound. It becomes more pronounced, the coming night. As the paranormal activity increases, it becomes as scarier for viewers. The curtains start ruffling without reason, scratching noises are heard and on top of it the differences of Micah Sloat and Katie Featherston make them bicker with each other. The recording camera makes Katie uneasy at night and she wants some professional ghost hunter to visit, while Micah wants to carry on with the investigation.
The Paramount Picture’s film is remarkable and is surely a must see this season.
