Michael Alig, the host of the nightclub, has been nominated for the New York Nightlife Hall of Fame. Michael Alig had been arrested in a murder case year’s back. He has been serving jail for last 13 years as he was sentenced. Michael Alig has always been remembered as nightlife promoter and a host in the nightclubs of the New York. Michael Alig was arrested in the charge of containing illegal drugs and on a count of murdering his drug dealer Andre Melendeze. Michael Alig was friends with Steve Lewis. Steve Lewis remained a source of support for Michael Alig during his jail time which has not ended even yet. Michael Alig was locked down in jail with other murderers, rapists, and drug dealers. Michael had a depression during is early years of imprisonment and made paintings about his jail time which has been constantly uploaded by Steve Lewis on his blog.
According to the latest news, Steve Lewis is also part of the jury for New York Nightlife Hall of Fame which has nominated Michael Alig. The other jury members include Claire O’Connor, Michael Musto, Chi Chi Valenti, Carmen D’Alessio, Fab Five Freddy, Nicki Camp, Serge Becker, John Blair, Patrick McMullan, Stephan Saban, and Susanne Bartsch. Junior Vasquez, Funkmaster Flex, Lady Bunny, and John Gungie Rivera have been approached by the committee members to join the jury. The jury has selected a list of 50 people for the nominations. Other than Michael Alig, the nominations include Steve Rubell, Ian Schrager, John Addison, Steve Maas, Peter Gatien, Rudolf Maurice Brahms, Werner Leroy, , Eric Goode, , Michael Alig, Howie Montaug, Mickey Ruskin, Fred Rothbell-Mista, Hilly Crystal, Larry Levan. Dean Johnson, Larry Tee, RuPaul, Grace Jones, Lou Reed, Anita Sarko, Debbie Harry, Andy Warhol, Leigh Bowery, Nell Campbell, Richard Long, David Mancuso, Arthur Weinstein, Was Stevens, Steven Klein, Disco Sally, Grandmaster Flash, and Kenny Kenny. However, the list is still not finalized.
