Scammers hit Michigan, and people with unemployment Insurance cards are their target.
UIA, Unemployment Insurance Agency was contacted by two people who sought help in the backdrop of having messages to verify their IU numbers. The agency warned the card holders not to reveal their PIN to anybody asking for it through text or e-mail.
The same kinds of attempts are previously reported from New York, Missouri and Rhode Island recently.
Stephen Geskey, UIA Director has made it clear in a statement that the only purpose of these scammers seems to be gaining access to the PIN numbers in order to steal the funds from the account if any. He further iterated that UIA and Chase Bank, the bank that administers these cards in the state of Michigan; do not contact a card holder through text or by e- mail. Geskey advised the people to ignore these messages.
The bogus messages which urge people to reveal their PIN numbers to the callers or they are asked to call to a certain number, where a recorded message asks for their PIN numbers, while arguing that their PIN numbers need to be reset.
The UAI has advised the people to contact the Morgan Chase Bank at telephone numbers 1-866-523-2122 to verify the status of their Michigan UI Debit Card and not to fall the prey of these scammers whose only motive is to rob them of their funds by obtaining the pin numbers of their cards.
In the wake of economic recession and heavy unemployment, the warning might save many of the troubles of facing an empty account.
