Midnight Mass, the traditional celebration on the Christmas Eve is considered the beginning of Christmas Day. Midnight Mass is observed by Catholic and Anglican Churches through out the world. Midnight Mass is commonly known as Eucharist.
What time the midnight mass will start is a popular joke about the event. The joke has become quite pertinent in recent years as churches in different countries hold this Midnight Mass at different times and some of these churches even start it as early as 7.p.m on Christmas Eve. The main purpose behind these masses that not exactly start at midnight is to avoid traffic loads on streets and to help families with children to attend the Midnight Masses early so that they could also avoid the late night hula bola of young generation and getting their little kids into any kind of trouble.
One of other reasons for these Midnight Masses to be held earlier is that some of the churches in Western world try to celebrate it with midnight mass at Bethlehem.
The event has it its significance in Christian world as Masses are considered a remembrance of last super by Jesus Christ. In some countries a tradition of arranging masses from 16th December till 24th December is observed.
The Midnight Masses give Christians much time on Christmas Day to participate in other celebration not only to show their attendance in a nearby church.
One more specialty of Midnight mass is the chances of having a gift from Santa Claus, the traditional funny man clad in red with white beard.
Midnight Masses are only having their name for the event and a few masses are actually started at midnight. Even Pope will perform his Midnight Mass at 10.p.m.
Not to forget the priests, the early Midnight Masses give them an opportunity to enjoy Christmas off the altar.
