In a remarkable act of courage and duty, Cincinnati Bengal’s coach showed up for the game against Baltimore Ravens after having to deal with the loss of wife of 27 years. They both had three children. The Bengals win the game with 17-14 against Ravens despite Ravens being favorite.
It is an extraordinary effort by the team which was touted as bungles previously and much of their victory has to do with their defense. Zimmer was awarded with the game ball by the head coach of Bengals in the locker room as he appreciated Zimmer’s efforts. The team players gathered round Mike Zimmer and hopped to show their love to the coach. Mike Zimmer assured his team that his wife loved team players during her life time and she is up there and is proud of them. As the Bengal fans nationwide have shown their concern, the cause of death and details have not been made public.
Starting from a part timer as assistant, his career consisted of various positions as defense coach. When Cougars won nationwide acclaim for their defense in 1993, Mike Zimmer was the defense coach at Washington State University. Zimmer went on to be with Dallas Cowboys and served the team for seven seasons. The team under his coaching in 2004 was credited with giving up fewest yards.
Coach Mike Zimmer’s son Adam Zimmer has also followed his father footsteps and is now junior coach with New Orleans Saints.
Mike Zimmer’s wife Vicki Zimmer was an ardent supporter for Bengals team. She was 50-years-0ld at the time of her death.
