Mollie Sugden a British actress best known for her role as saleswoman “Mrs. Slocombe” in hit BBC TV comedy program “Are You Being Served”, died yesterday on 01 July 2009, she was 86-years-old at the time of her death. Joan Reddin the spokesperson for Mollie Reddin told the press that she died after an extensive illness; she was an excellent person and a great professional.
Mollie Sugden was born in 1922 in Keighley, West Yorkshire. She has also performed in “Grace and Favour” and “That’s My Boy and My Husband and I”, she has served British TV well during her career. She is well-know to the audience because of her bright color wigs.
Are you Being Served was re-telecasted in U.S during 1990’s it was then that Mollie Sugden gained fame overseas.
Frank Thornton a co-actor said that she was very charming and an excellent actress. Moreover, he said that she could play any roles in any series “serious or funny”; she was such a versatile actress.
Head of BBC comedy Mark Freeland said that the loss is tragic and she was one of the TV icons.
Mollie Sugden also performed in “Coronation Street” a soap opera presented by ITV, her role in BBC Television comedy series “The Liver Birds” was also appreciated by the viewers.
