It was a heroic effort by Captain Philips. He offered himself to pirates to save the lives of his crew members. As we were getting continuous new stream about Maersk Alabama and Somali pirates who had abducted the ship for ransom, Captain Philips sent a strong message to all of us. Looking at the events I am proud to that I belong to a nation who produced men like Captain Philips. Somali pirates kept, abducted captain on a life boat. Eventually snipers rescued the Captain and pirates were killed. But the drama, the tension and bravery was unbelievable. Today is a historic day as the life boat on which the captain remained captive has been brought back to Nauticus. Holes made by the bullets and the struggle were all visible.
As the Maersk Alabama was seized by the Somali pirates, city of Norfolk became especially concerned as the Ship belonged to the mermaid city. President Obama decided to send warship SS Bainbridge to rescue Captain Philips. SS Bainbridge belonged to Naval Station Norfolk.
As the life boat arrived, people had already gathered to see the boat at which the drama unfolded.
People were of the view that just by looking at the lifeboat they feel themselves at the place where pirates attacked the ship.
As 11th November is Veteran’s Day, the arrival of the boat acquired special meaning. The life boat would not only be a symbol of pride for Naval Station Norfolk, but it would also be a part of the exhibition called “Modern Piracy Exhibit”.
