United States Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit of the Southwest Island of New Zealand about 100 miles west of Invercargill, New Zealand Tsunami Warning has been canceled. A warning was issued by the warning center around 11:45 P.M local time after the quake hit the south Island at 9:20 P.M.
Auckland and Wellington residents were advised of a potential warning, whereas no other countries in the Pacific were to be affected. A 5.8 magnitude hit the coastal line almost after 20 minutes.
Due to shaking and vibration at the core sea-level indicated to trigger a Tsunami according to pacific warning center, however, there are no reports from around the area that any Tsunami struck, but at Jackson Bay a sea level increase has been seen 6.7 inches above normal.
No damage both from tsunami or earthquake has been reported yet, however, according to the reports quake was felt across southwest Island of New Zealand.
According to the Pacific Warning Center, while canceling the tsunami warning issued earlier said New Zealand’s southwest coastline is safe from destructive waves.
The warning center said that the wave generated by quake is not more than 7 inches in height and warning was canceled after about 2-1/2 hours on Wednesday.
