Author of the book “Not Without Hope” Nick Schuyler was interviewed on Tuesday as part of his publicity tour for the book which was inspired by the tragedy that took place just a year ago. Nick Schuyler and three of his friends were on a boating trip off the coast of Florida when they were faced with an accident that left them marooned in the ocean. Nick Schuyler was the only survivor of the incident and it shows his courage and patience as he held on for his dear life for a total of forty-three hours, a feat that is very rarely accomplished in real life.
Two of his friends played football for the NFL, one of them Corey Smith was a player on the Detroit Lions team and was only twenty-nine years of age while the other football player was Marquis Cooper who played the position of linebacker for the Oakland Raiders, Cooper was even younger at an age of twenty-six years. The third person to die was one of the best friends of Nick Schuyler, his name was Will Beakley and was at the time playing football for his college, the University of South Florida. Beakley was the youngest amongst those who died as he was only twenty-five years of age.
In the interview Nick Schuyler was asked a series of questions regarding his accident of which one was related to him getting help with the trauma and guilt that he’s been suffering from since the tragedy. Nick Schuyler replied in a weary tone that he had initially sought help and then he had been coping with it on his own as well saying that his friends, family and clients had been really nice to him in showing their support. He also said that though twelve months had passed it didn’t at all feel like it, it somehow felt like lesser time had passed since then.
