Passengers said that they were excited to ride a different mode of transportation as they rode the first-day trips of the Northstar Commuter Rail. Hundreds of commuters used the first-day service of inbound trips made by Northstar Commuter rail to reach their workplaces.
Northstar Commuter Rail is the latest transportation service of the Minnesota town. The locals have welcomed the commuter rail and have hoped that it would reduce the distances for them and would save them from driving to their offices.
Northstar Commuter Rail service was inaugurated today. The projects took nearly 13 years to get completed and more than $317 million were spent on the project. The project has had its tough times too and faced many political difficulties during its design and approval from the government but the train finally ran on its tracks in Big Lake at 5 a.m.
The track of the train had stops at major pints around the city including Elk River, Anoka, Coon Rapids, and Fridley to avoid congestions. The rail had its test drives before the official first commuter service started today. The transit company reported that more than 1,207 passengers rode the rail on its first day. It is expected that on a normal day an approximate of 1,700 paying passengers will take ride on the rail.
The first commuters felt excited riding the train service and remarked that riding the first rail of Northstar Commuter Rail was more like being a part of historical event.
